I'm an artist and an art instructor, and I write when I can. People often ask artists where their inspiration comes from. Mine comes from everything I've experienced and felt or thought, but mostly it comes from my four amazing daughters. Surrounded by girls growing into young women as I have been, I am constantly questioning what it means to be a woman. And this questioning runs through most of my work.
Why digital art you might ask. I have a background in traditional media (graphite, ink and acrylic) and graphic arts. But even though I'm oldish, I was exposed to computers in my late teens, thanks to my Dad, who worked for one of the big computer companies. We had a PC in the home way before other families. However, it wasn't until I joined dA that I seriously considered digital as a medium for fine art. So thank you to those here who encouraged my early efforts. You know who you are.
Before I came here, I was thinking of giving up art. I was born with crummy eyesight, which was getting worse as I'd grown older. Even with glasses it was becoming harder to see close up. Then a few things happened. First, I had (double) eye surgery. Then on my way back from a funeral, I ended up on a plane next to a young photographer, who recommended that I check out dA. And finally once here, some of my followers suggested I try GIMP...
Taking on a new medium shakes up your art. It changes your relationship to the creative process and offers new challenges and new inspiration. It's been ten years since my first attempt at digital art and I'm still learning, growing artistically and loving it.
Thanks for stopping by.
