To Lady Godiva's Horse

I don’t mean to be rude,
But I have to...
Go somewhere over the rainbow
Happy little bluebirds fly, so why?
God, in heaven above!
She’s naked from the waist down, oh stop!

I don’t mean to be nude
But I have to...
Go now, go now, oh how, oh how
Before you see me cry, see me die
Jesus, Mary, Joseph!
She hit that man with her riding crop!

I don’t mean to be lewd,
But I have to...
Be alone again, naturally,
Cut me into little pieces...sigh
Holy mother of God!
She's taking off her baby doll top!

I don’t want to be sued
But I have to...
Just because it hides a nasty stain
I’m not in love, no, it’s just because I...
For the love of God, oh Lord!
Somebody, somebody call the cops!

I don’t mean to be crude
But I have to...
Because love was meant for beauty queens
At seventeen to live I lied, I lie
Father, son, holy ghost!
So unreal, see the make-up, wires and props!

A policeman wrapped her in trench coat
He put her on a Macy's float
She sat upon her horse high
And munchkins on librium
Sang a requiem
In a little rowboat
Clap clap,clap, clap

-- by M. Alice Chown
La di da la di da

Insanity by tunes. Credit for borrowed inspriation and lyrics to the creators of The Wizard of Oz, 10cc, the beatles, the Moody Blues and that lonely guy... gah... G-gilbert O'sullivan and that so lovely lonely girl, janis ian... and whoever wrote the 'clap, clap' song.

Based on seeing a woman having a manic attack in the food court of a mall.

Thanks for reading.:) I'm glad you caught the humour!

I'm not sure. As in the poem, she was wrapped in a coat and taken away. In these cases, people aren't arrested, but rather taken to a hospital for an assessment. But while a shrink can recommend treatment, they can't be forced to take it.

I have to say that even though I knew a mental break down like this is as serious a health problem as a stroke or cancer, I laughed at the poor woman. It was just so out of ordinary and unexpected. I felt really bad afterward (although there was nothing I could have done) and the incident stuck in my mind.

Oh wow........:omg: I know, my mom's uncle is mentally ill. -.- Well had to put him in an old age home because he was parkensins, and he sees things that aren't there. :( However, you just can't help to laugh at the things they sometimes do because we find it odd.

I have some people in my life who have mental illness, but not delusions or extreme mania that makes them do shocking things. That was the first time I'd seen something like this.:)

That is a cornucopia of pop references - that alone makes it delightful, but there's more there - a subtle questioning of values, a consideration of the expectations we might chose to live by or ignore ...:D Yup..definitely something more...maybe it's time for this...:+fav:

Thank you!!! I'm so into the pop refs. They rush to my frontal lobes whenever I consider an experience... songs, TV shows, novels, ads, etc. I'm glad you like this.

 subtle questioning about how women perceive themselves, how others perceive them, morality and mental illness...

Aw... these are the subjects I write and draw about the most, as well as parent-child and romantic relationships. I've heard is said more than once that most writers have a fixed set of ideas that they play with in various ways through their chosen medium/media.
